On March 26, 2024, the Green Overseas Programme organized a major gathering in Curacao, bringing together 40 delegates from 15 different countries. The event highlighted the importance of clean energy innovation, with a strong focus on solar energy and sustainable development in island regions.

The Green Overseas Programme, funded by the European Union with a budget of €17.8 million, is dedicated to fostering sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth across European and British overseas territories. The central goal is to accelerate the energy transition by boosting efficiency, resilience, and collective strength in the fight against climate change.

The theme of the day centered on exploring clean energy innovations and policy strategies, with particular emphasis on how islands like Curacao can benefit from greater adoption of renewable sources such as solar power. Delegates shared case studies and examples of how energy efficiency and renewable energy can be effectively implemented in island communities.

The event featured several engaging presentations, followed by a special visit to the offices of Lure-Energy, a leading renewable energy company in Curacao. Attendees also participated in an excursion to one of the largest solar energy projects ever carried out by Lure-Energy, showcasing the island’s commitment to sustainable development and energy independence.

By hosting this international meeting, Curacao positioned itself as a hub for clean energy progress in the Caribbean, underlining the critical role that solar energy plays in shaping a resilient and sustainable future for island nations.
